Cognition and Language is one of the core research groups within the School of Psychology. The School has a long-standing reputation for international research excellence in cognitive psychology. Our work on the role of visual attention in skill development capitalises on collaborations with the Accident Research Unit (ARU).

The Cognitive and Language group works on the role of attention in the processing of visual information, on implicit learning, and language processing in monolinguals and bilinguals. Our eye-tracking laboratories are used in investigations of skilled performance in text reading and music reading, the relationship between looking at objects and remembering them, and the role of attention in the selection of objects for scrutiny.

Research in the Cognition and Language group is supported by grants from the ESRC, British Academy, EPSRC, and Leverhulme.

The Cognition and Language group organises regular seminars. Please subscribe to our mailing list for announcements of these seminars.
