Please see my research pages for details on each project. Admin Roles I sit on the Research Committee in my role as the School’s Fellowship Officer. What is a research fellowship? A research fellowship is awarded by an external body to fund the salary and research costs of an individual. They are an opportunity to pursue an extended period of uninterrupted research and further the career development of research scientists. There are fellowships schemes available at every academic level. Who should apply? External funding bodies encourage “scientists who have the potential to become leaders in their field” to apply for their fellowship schemes. Most schemes are very competitive, but don’t let that put you off from applying. If you are a self-motivated, hard-working individual with a talent for doing good research, you will have a good chance of obtaining one of these prestigious awards. What are the assessment criteria? The means by which the funding bodies assess applications is typically quite flexible, rather than being based on a strict formulaic approach. In general, they will evaluate your potential to be a successful, independent research scientist. In making this judgement, they will consider the number and quality (impact factor, citations etc.) of publications, evidence of previous funding, research awards, quality and feasibility of the research proposal and suitability of the sponsor, department and university.
