An overview

My main research interest is in the application of psychological theories and methods to the design and use of collaborative digital technologies.

Over the years, my work in collaboration with colleagues from computer science, education and engineering, has been supported by a diverse range of funding bodies including the ESRC and EPSRC Research Councils UK, the Higher Education Funding Council for England, EU Framework Programmes, and British Telecom.

I am currently a Co-Investigator in the inter-disciplinary team within the new multi-million pound RCUK-funded Horizon Research Institute at the University of Nottingham engaged in Digital Economy Research.  My interests focus on the understanding of users’ interactions with ubiquitous location-aware and sensor technologies and their attitudes and perceptions and willingness to engage with future technologies.

I was recently a Co-Investigator in the Personal Inquiry project which developed an approach of 'scripted inquiry learning'.  This was a research collaboration between the Learning Sciences Research Institute at Nottingham University and the Institute of Educational technology at the Open University, funded under the UK ESRC’s Technology Enhanced Learning Programme.
