CITED REFERENCES SEARCHING

Here is a ‘worked example’ of how you do a ‘cited references search’, ie how you find out which subsequent articles have cited a particular work you already know about. This is like building your ‘search tree’ of references forwards in time instead of backwards, as is more usual (and probably less helpful).

Go to mimas.ac.uk

Select ISI Web of Knowledge

Pull down the LINKS TO RESOURCES menu, select ISI WEB OF KNOWLEDGE,  press GO

Press the CONNECT TO ISI WEB OF KNOWLEDGE link

Press GO next to WEB OF SCIENCE

Select CITED REFERENCE SEARCH

You come to a page that looks like this...

Enter AUTHOR and/or WORK and/or YEAR

Eg put in

CLARKE DD

BRIT J CLIN SOCIAL P

Press SEARCH

The articles will be listed (only one matches this)

Tick the box beside it

Press FINISH SEARCH

.. and there are the people who have quoted my article since then! And you can repeat the process using those.

Hope that helps,

David Clarke
