Neurocognitive development of attentional control in typically developing toddlers, children and adults

·        The Development of Attentional Control

The ability to control interference between stimuli in the environment and our current goals is crucial to everyday behaviour. Infants and young children gradually develop the ability to inhibit inappropriate responses and select correct paths of action. This gradual development is apparent through multiple responses: from simple eye movements to manual reaching, etc. What factors influence the development of this ability? Addressing this question requires developing tasks that can be used across a wide age range. My interest in the areas follows recent findings obtained in established infant laboratories in the UK.
