Walter van Heuven > Research

My research interests are in the area of monolingual and bilingual language processing, computational models of language processing, and neuroimaging studies of the bilingual brain. My current work investigates word processing in monolinguals and bilinguals (e.g., orthographic and morphological processing, automatic translation), cognitive control in multilinguals, and incidental foreign language acquisition. I am also working on different computational models (e.g., models of bilingual word processing, letter position coding, Stroop, and pronoun resolution).

I am a member of the Bilingualism Research Group, the Cognition and Language group at the School of Psychology, and the Brain and Body Centre.

Postgraduate Research Opportunities

The School of Psychology funds every year about 8 PhD students. Are you interested in bilingual language processing, computational modelling and/or cognitive neuroimaging? Contact me then for details about possible PhD projects. Information about doing a PhD at the School of Psychology can be found here.

Computational Models and Software Tools

Below you can find a list of some of the software that I have developed for stimulus selection, computer simulations and experimentation. Note: some of these tools are only available within the University of Nottingham campus [UoN]
